Glenn E. "Chips" Ahrens
June 10, 1928 ~ August 9, 2012

Glenn E. "Chips" Ahrens, 84, of Butler, PA, passed away on August 9, 2012 at 5:50 p.m. at the VA Medical Center.

He was born June 10, 1928 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada to the late John Edward Ahrens and Mary Lavina Topping Ahrens.

Mr. Ahrens was a member of First English Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Board of Director's of the Butler County Symphony Association and the Foxburg Golf Hall of Fame. Mr. Ahrens was an officer of the Elk's Club #170 where he was a life member and a member of the American Legion #117. He enjoyed golf and hosted the Muntz Avenue Open at the Foxburg Country Club for 35 years to raise money for Children's Hospital. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War.

Mr. Ahrens is survived by three sons, Mark Ahrens and his fiancee, Monica Snyder of Butler, PA, John Ahrens of Butler, PA, and Grant Ahrens of Slippery Rock, PA; two daughters, Judy Doyle and her husband Jim of Stafford, VA, and Jane McCulley and her husband Robert of Bridgeport, W.VA; five grandchildren, Mike and Dylan Ahrens, Bobby and Ryan McCulley and Janson Doyle; one brother, Bruce Cameron McLaughlin and his wife Nancy of MN; one sister, Ruth Anne Schuster and her husband Duane of MN; and also by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister Aldine Lettermann.

Friends will be received Monday, August 13, 2012 from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm at Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street Butler, PA.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 14, 2012, at 10:00 am at the First English Lutheran Church, 241 North Main Street Butler, PA, with Reverend James Dollhopf, of First English Lutheran Church officiating.

Private burial will take place in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
