Services for James Lucas Word are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at CrystalRock Cathedral with the Rev. David Gardner officiating. Interment will follow at McKown Cemetery.

Known to all who loved him as Luke, he was born on Jan. 29, 1978, in Ardmore, Okla., to Jim and Beth Ward. He was a lifetime resident of Ardmore and loved this area.

Luke passed on Sept. 13, 2006, at the age of 28. He was preceded in death by his father, Jim Word; a sister, Cherry Delano; grandfather, James Edgar Word; grandmother, Emma Faye Word; and grandfather, Ray McKown.

Luke graduated from Lone Grove High School in 1996 and from Oklahoma State University with a BS in animal science in 2001.

His passion for all things scientific, especially agriculture, along with his love of the Spanish culture, made Luke as unique as he was adored. He had an easy caring nature about him which led to a very colorful array of friends, spanning from the guys he loved to "roll" with in Jiu Jitsu, to the old farmers who he loved to sit and chat with about their cattle. Anyone who's ever ridden around with Luke in his truck knows he didn't go anywhere without being honked or waved at.

Luke was employed at the Noble Foundation where he was able to intertwine his interests and hobbies with his daily work. He enjoyed the simple, happy things in life, his cattle, fishing and rolling around on the floor with his nieces and nephews who think he literally put the stars in the sky.

Luke truly had no enemies. He loved everyone. Pestering, teasing and making us laugh 'til we cried were his specialties. Without even trying he touched more people's lives than you could imagine. His precious heart and compassionate ways were unparalleled and his family and countless friends will miss him dearly.

He is survived by his mother, Beth Word, Ardmore; stepfather, Jerry Choate, Ardmore; sisters, Lori Word Harrison and husband, Jeddie, Ardmore, Leah Word Leverett, Ardmore; nieces and nephews, Meleah Harrison, Tripp Harrison, Landon Leverett and Bradley Delano; aunts, Sherry Boatman and husband, Shannon, Ardmore, Lometa Cryer and her husband, Lavell, Arlington, Texas; uncles, Gene McKown and wife Judy, Norman, Jim McKown and wife, Jackie, Ardmore, Joe Word and wife, Geneva, Lone Grove, Don Word and wife, Terry, Ardmore; and several cousins.

Bearers will be Joe Borza, Sean Feroli, Jeddie Harrison, Jimmy Tynes, Jacob Tynes and Kenny Word. Honorary bearers are Michael Rice, Shannon Boatman, Don Word, Joe Word, Lavell Cryer, Dustin Gardner, Johnny Tynes, Josh Buck, Jesus Perez, Dr. Bob Kropp and Rafael Juarez.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at CrystalRock.

Craddock Funeral Home will direct services.
