A funeral service for Mable Bernhardt was held Sunday afternoon, Nov. 25, 2007, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Kimball Township, Jackson County, Minn., with Rev. Rick Bremseth officiating. Interment was at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Kimball Township, Jackson County. Mable passed away on Nov. 20, 2007, at Jackson Good Samaritan Center.
Casket bearers were Gary Dunker, Larry Harries, Gene Nordstrom, Dan Jones, DeLyle Harries and Ed Woizeschke. Ushers were Harvey Christophel and Martin Rose. Dianne Swanson was organist, and Gary Natterstad and Misty Karschnik were soloists. Osterberg Funeral Service handled the funeral arrangements.
Mable Bernhardt was born on June 5, 1918, in Enterprise Township, Jackson County, Minn., the daughter of Herman and Anna (Meyer) Harries. As a youth, she attended District 20 school in Jackson County. She was united in marriage to Henry Bernhardt on June 1, 1938, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kimball Township. After marriage, they lived near Triumph for three and one-half years, until they moved to a farm in Kimball Township for the next 48 years. She worked at Tony Downs Foods in St. James and had worked at Naturals in Jackson for 16 years. Henry passed away on Dec. 4, 1982. She continued to make her home on the farm until 1990, when she moved into Jackson. She became a resident of Jackson Good Samaritan Center on Nov. 25, 2003.
Mable was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kimball Township; she was baptized on June 23, 1918, and later confirmed on April 30, 1933. She had been active in Ladies' Aid. Besides her employment and raising four children, she gardened, canned, and helped with farming and taking care of the farm animals. She loved life and, most of all, her family and her Lord. She and Hienie enjoyed remodeling and decorating their beautiful farm home. She loved to entertain family and friends. With her strong faith and witty sense of humor, she was always there to give comfort and joy to many.
Mable is survived by three daughters, Ginger (Maynard) Anderson of Mountain Lake, Linda Sampson and Rhonda (Don) Schaffer, both of Jackson; son, Roger Bernhardt of Fountain Valley, Calif.; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Chester Harries; brother-in-law, Ray Dunker; and sisters-in-law, Nelda Berry, Viola Bernhardt and Ellen Bernhardt.
Mable was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Henry; daughter-in-law, MaryJane Bernhardt; brothers, Dick, Harold and Raymond Harries; and sisters, Margaret Hindahl and Marie Dunker.
