Rhode Island Governor. Entering politics, he was a clerk of the Kent County court, served in the Rhode Island General Assembly, (1734-39) and was he Deputy Governor of the Rhode Island Colony (1740-43). In 1743, he was elected as the Rhode Island Colony Governor, serving until his death at age 62. His son of William Greene Jr. was the second Governor of Rhode Island.
