8 Nov 1923 Robert Quarterman Baker was born in Liberty Co. Ga on Jan 1838 and quietly passed away at home of his son in law, Mr F Q Tervin in DeFuniak on Nov 2 1923 in the 86th year of his age. When age 17 he entered Oglethorpe College, then in Milledge, Ga. and graduated at 19 yrs of age. After graduation he taught school in Thomas Co, Ga. for abt 2 yrs. When the war between the states broke out in April 1861, he promptly enlisted the next month in Confederate Army staying until close in April 1865. After the war he studied Law and for a time prosecuting attorney, even though young as abt 30 yrs. Later he taught school at Dorchester, Ga, it was at this time he entered the ministry, so he taught school and preached at Dorchester. For 8 yrs he was paster of Presbyterian Church at St. Mary's, Ga from 1871 to 1879. About that time he again engaged in teaching at Ridge, Ga. After these years of labor as lawyer, teacher and preacher in his native Georgia, he came to Florida at age 43 in year 1881 and continued his labors. He minister to Euchee Valley Church for 39 yrs and to Magnolia, Westville, Freeport, DeFuniak and Bonifay churches. He was for 12 yrs Superintendent of Public Instruction in Walton. After giving up his work in ministry in Jan 1 1920, a few days short of being 82 yrs, lived with his daughter Mrs F Q Tervin. Services in Euchee Valley Church on Friday, Nov 3 1923 and burial was in the Valley Cem.nearby.
