Robert Y. Carstens, 56, who served 14 consecutive years on the Wash. State Democratic Central Committee from Lincoln County, died Thursday (Feb 9, 1979) from a heart attack at a Maui, Hawaii, hospital.
Mr. Carstens was born at Spokane and graduated from Odessa HS. He was attending Wash. State University when he was called to serve four years with the US Army in WW II. After the war, he and M.H. "Bill" Floyd were partners in Harrington Machinery Co until 1955 when Mr. Carstens began farming.
Mr. Carstens was a member and past president of Harrington Golf Club; charter member and past president of Harrington Lions Club; immediate past president of the board of directors of United Grain Growers; member of American Legion Post 95; member of Washington Wheat growers Assn; member of Harrington Masonic Lodge. He also was past chairman and member of Harrington School Board.
Mr. Carstens is survived by his wife, Mavis (Midge); a son, John A.; a daughter, Kathleen A.; and his mother, Rita C.
