Warren was born on the Baker family farm, north of Oblong, on May 9, 1931, the son of R. I,. “Isam” Baker and Pearl (Wiman) Baker. After graduating from Oblong High School in 1949, Warren entered the U. S. army in 1952 and served as a corporal in Korea with the 64th Field Hospital for 14 months during the Korean Conflict. He received the Korean Service, United Nations Service and National Defense Service medals. He married his partner in life and love, Janice Camp, on February 17, 1956. He and Janice bought his grandfather’s farm, less than a mile from where he was born and began their life of farming together, retiring in 1996. Warren was always an active man. While farming, he and Janice had horses first, then later motorcycles as members of the Tri-County Motorcycle Club and he enjoyed riding his four-wheeler. After retiring, they stared country dancing and Warren’s family was both amazed and thrilled at how much he loved to dance. Warren and Janice were also blessed to take trips across the United States with family and friends not only from the Redwood Forests to the Gulf Stream Waters, but also Los Angeles to Boston and many points in between.
