James Matison Gibson was born in August of 1854 in Pike County, Kentucky. He was the son of John Wesley Gibson and Mary Polly Morgan. He was married three times in his life and had 21 children. His first wife was Marthy Winnie Rose. They have 2 daughters Mary and Nancy. After the birth of his daughters he relocated to Lawrence County, Kentucky. His second wife was Mary Moore. With her they had Samuel, Martha, Milla Jane, William, John B, twins Clista, Unamed boy, Mont, Sue, twins Bessie and Barnes. After his wife passed away near the same time his twins he married Rosa Belle Patrick. They had Rittie, Emma, Sheridan, Noah, Allen, Amanda, Madgie and Grover. Only 15 of his children lived into adulthood. He had his first child in 1873 and his last one in 1925. He is buried in Compton Cox Cemetery. His grave is only marked by a stone. The precise location if his grave has been passed down from his children to his great great great grandchildren. His second wife is buried there as well. It's said that both sets of his twins are located there at well.
