Richard L. Aanas
Richard Aanas, 73, of Elysian, died Sunday, November 14, 1993, at his home of cancer.
Visitation is one hour before the funeral on Wednesday at the Prosch Funeral Home in Waterville. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday morning at the Funeral Home with his brother-in-law, Rev. Glen Williamson officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill cemetery in Elysian.
Richard Aanas was born February 19, 1920 to Ludwig and Laura (Haugland) Aanas in Decorah, Iowa. He was inducted into the Army during WW II on December 2, 1942 in Des Moines, Iowa. He took his training at Camp Dodge. He served in the infantry in four theaters in the European Campaign; Africa, twice in Italy, and France. He was wounded in France in 1945 and received a purple heart with a cluster. He was discharged July 18, 1945, in Waterloo, Iowa.
He married Ruth Nichols on March 14, 1949, in Austin, Minnesota. He attended Business College in Waterloo, Iowa and worked as a bookkeeper until moving to Elysian in 1954. He worked at E. F. Johnson in Waseca for ten years until retirement. He served as Mayor of Elysian and was very active in the Baptist Church. He was a life=time member of the D. A. V.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth, of Elysian, one son, Donald Aanas of Le Center, two daughters, Diane (Aanas) and husband Spencer Maix of Virginia, Minnesota, Debbra (Aanas) and husband, Daniel Smith of Kilkenny, two sisters, Luverne (Aanas) and husband, Rev. Glen Williamson of Stanwood, Washington, and eleven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister-in-law, one brother-in-law and one son.
Prosch Funeral Home of Waterville was in charge of arrangements.
