David Aanas, 21, Fatally Injured In Car Accident
A tragic one-car accident early Sunday morning, April 18, claimed the life of David J. Aanas, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Aanas of Elysian. The car he was driving west left Highway 60 about a quarter of a mile east of town near Lake Elysian, and the vehicle was believed to have rolled over several times. He was alone at the time of the mishap which occurred at about the same location on the highway that two motorcycles had collided only the week before.
David was born March 19, 1950 at Waterloo, Iowa, the oldest son of Richard and Ruth (Nichols) Aanas. He graduated from Waterville-Elysian High School in 1968 and had been attending Mankato State College.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, April 21, at the United Methodist Church in Elysian with Rev. Harold Stuart officiating. Burial was in Cedar Hill cemetery here.
Visitation was held Tuesday at the Peterson Funeral Home in Waterville.
Pallbearers were Robert Mackey, Lance Doyle, Norman Wille, William Schmidt, LuVerne Nelson, and Thomas Miller.
Left to mourn his untimely passing are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Aanas; one brother, Donald; and two sisters, Diane and Deborah, all at home; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Nichols of Elysian; two aunts and two uncles.
