Last rites for John R. Allen; former assessor

Funeral services for John Russell Allen, a former Montgomery County school teacher and tax assessor were held at Kilmichael last week. Mr. Allen, who was 84, died April 1 at the Kilmichael hospital.

A native of the Lodi community, he was a lifelong resident of Montgomery County. He was a teacher in the county school system for several years and served as county tax assessor for eight years.

Mr. Allen was a Methodist and became a steward of the church at age 24, a position he held in both the Kilmichael and Salem churches. He also had served as a district steward of the Methodist Church.

He was married in 1915 to the former Mary Alice Hamer who survives him.

Funeral services were held at the Kilmichael Methodist Church, April 3, at 3 p.m., with Rev. L. P. Wasson officiating, assisted by Rev. Bill Henson. Burial was in Kilmichael cemetery, with Lee Funeral Home in charge.

Pallbearers were Billy Hodges, Noel Williams, Earl Williams, Tom Bingham, H. W. Holleman, and Lagrone Mortimer.
