Mrs. Fred Cushman Dies after Short Illness
After an illness of only a few days, Mrs. Frederick N. Cushman, prominent resident of the Newville section for the past forty-eight years, died at the Enloe hospital in Chico yesterday afternoon. Mrs. Kate Brewster Cushman was born in Mannsville, New York, November 26, 1870, coming to Placerville at the age of eight.
She attended Irvington College near Mission San Jose and it was there that she met Frederick Cushman native son of Newville country, and the two were married at Galt on November 24, 1892, the young couple coming immediately to the well known Cushman ranch to make their home.
Mrs. Cushman was a member of the Christian church of Galt and was prominent during her earlier life in church work.
Mrs. Cushman is survived by her husband and three children, Mrs. Irma DeArmond of Berkeley, Brewster Cushman and Mrs. Hetty Thompson of Orland and the following grandchildren: Louis and Clyde DeArmond, Frederick, Allan and Barnett Cushman, and two brothers, George Brewster Jr. of Palo Alto and Bayard Brewster of Sherwood, Oregon.
Services will be held Saturday afternoon at one at the Sweet Chapel in Orland with short services at the Newville cemetery. - Transcribed by E.
