The Lead Daily Call of December 14, 1908 reported: "Mrs. Caroline Alaniva, wife of Isaac R. Alaniva, died this morning a little after two at her home on east McClellan street, South Lead, after a long and painful illness of cancer of the stomach. Mrs. Alaniva was born in Finland but came to this country several years ago. She was forty-three years old at the time of her death and leaves to mourn her loss besides her husband, several children, all of whom are young. The funeral will take place from the family residence at 7 East McClellan street on Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock, the Rev. Nels Pietela conducting the services. The remains will be interred in the South Lead Cemetery."
