SWANTON - Mr. Laurent Josephat Ballard, age 91 years, died late Tuesday evening, March 1, 2011 in the Saint Albans Health and Rehabilitation Center.
The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, March 7, 2011 at 11 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada Street, Swanton. Father Marcel R. Rainville will be the celebrant and homilist. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the Ballard family lot in Saint Mary's Roman Catholic Cemetery.
Friends may call at The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton on Sunday, March 6, 2011 from 3 to 6 p.m.

Laurent Josephat Ballard, age 91 years, died late Tuesday evening March 1, 2011, in the Saint Albans Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Roxton Pond, Quebec Canada on October 6, 1919, he was the son of the late Joseph and Clara (Gervais) Ballard.
He attended schools in Canada and on October 24, 1942 was married to the former Armande Beaudry who predeceased him on April 13, 2000, after nearly 58 years of marriage.
For many years Mr. Ballard owned and operated a dairy farm on the Ballard Road in Highgate. After selling the farm in 1972 he became the Sexton of the Church of the Nativity and Saint Mary's Cemetery. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 297 and Fourth Degree Assembly 1149 in Saint Albans and was also a longtime member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge 1090 of Saint Albans.
Mr. Ballard leaves five children and their spouses, Claude and Denise Ballard of Ocala, FL, Pauline and Louis Beaulieu of Nashua, NH, James and Nancy Ballard of Burlington, Pierrette and Philip Bouchard of Franklin and Johanne and Paul Embrey of Orlando, FL; a daughter-in-law, Eileen Ballard of Highgate; 11 grandchildren, Michelle Sotomayor, Hope Bockus, Allison Bailey, Jill Ballard, Lisa Babcock, Anne Parker, Michael Beaulieu, Scott Ballard, Steven Ballard, Marc Bouchard and Gregory Bouchard; 10 great grandchildren; five sisters, Jeanette Beaudry of Granby, Quebec, Florence Ballard, Cecile Deschamps, Lucille St. Yves and Lise Ballard all of Valleyfield, Quebec as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife Armande, he was predeceased by two sons, Gilles and Alain Ballard; one sister, Jeanine Ballard and four brothers, Gerard, George, Fred and Marcel Ballard.
