|Birth: ||Dec. 8, 1853, Czech Republic|
|Death: ||Dec. 28, 1928|
Another of the early settlers passed away when Marie Bartu, nee Krejdl, died Sunday December 28,1923 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank Elznic. One by one these early settlers are passing away, and the time will be here soon when the story of their trials must come from the printed page instead of from their lips. She was with those builders of bridges who prepared the path for those who were to follow, and did her full share in the building.
The decease was born in Bohemia, in Zblrov, and came to this land with her parents in 1875. January 25, 1876, she was married to Peter Bartu (in Fillmore Co, NE), who died in the fall of 1897. Until recently, she had been making her home with her son, Emil Bartu, and for several months before her death, made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Frank Elznic. She was in a weakened condition and required constant and tender care.
The deceased leaves surviving her two sons, Emil and Joe; and four daughters, Tena Kovanda, Tony Hornik, Rosie Bicek and Mary Elznic, one son Albert, having died at the age of fourteen, and two brothers, Frank and James Krejdl, and two sisters, Mrs. Fanny Havel and Anne Tymich. The body was interred in the north cemetery Sunday afternoon.
