GARNERED AS THE RIPENED GRAIN
DEATH OF MRS. ELIZABETH CREED AFTER LONG ILLNESS
The sad news was brought to town Friday morning of the death of Mrs. Elizabeth Creed of upper Sequoia, which occurred at about 11:30 Thursday evening.
The late Mrs. Creed had been confined to her home by serious illness for 22 months previous to her demise, and death came at last as a most welcome surcease from long time suffering. Only as a mitigation of her pain and discomfort was the faithful, ceaseless care of those near to her. Death alone could give her rest, peace and comfort.
Mrs. Elizabeth Creed was born in the town of Golant, Cornwall, England, on June 3, 1833, and was therefore almost 81 years of age when death came. In the late 60's she came with her brother, Mr. Joseph Trays, to America, landing first in Nova Scotia, and within a year or so coming west to California. On August 21, 1973, in the city of San Jose, she was wedded to Mr. Edwin Creed, and in this city they resided for many years afterward, a son, Joseph G. Creed, being born to them there. In November, 1887, the family moved from San Jose, with brother, Mr. Joseph Trays, to the well known Trays ranch on the headwaters of Boulder creek. Here, with the brother, the family have lived ever since, and have accomplishment the great pioneering task of carving a home for themselves out of the mountainous primeval wilderness.
Mrs. Elizabeth Jane Trays Creed came of sturdy, sterling English stock and can be truly said to have lived a long lifetime of womanly heroism. Leaving her childhood home and early associations, she came westward to the land of promise, America, and finally rounded out her days faithfully performing to the full measure the unremitting duties of a pioneer wife and mother in a remote corner of this locality, ever sincerely and full heartedly doing the woman's part to make the world around her better for her having lived in it. She leaves to mourn her loss the husband, Edwin Creed, son Joseph G. Creed and brother, Joseph Trays. So far as known no other blood relative survive her. The funeral will take place from the Methodist Church in this place this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, and the interment will be in our local cemetery.
