Son of Henry Coffman of Bourbon County, Kentucky and Catherine Hulett of Mason County, Kentucky.

Husband of Mary Jane Beatrice Amsberry of Marion County, Iowa, married on 04 July 1871 in Knoxville, Marion County, Iowa.

"Hiram Talbert Coffman was born July 10, 1843 near Greencastle, Putnam County, Indiana. When thirteen years of age, he moved with his parents to the state of Iowa where he grew to manhood.
In 1851, he enlisted in Company E, 8th Iowa Infantry Volunteers and again in 1863 in Company I, 73rd Illinois Infantry and was honorably discharged from the army in 1865.
On July 4, 1871, he married Beatrice Amsberry and of this union, seven children were born, four of whom have preceded him to the better land.
During the spring of 1874, Mr. Coffman and his family moved to Howard County, Nebraska and in 1882 he came to Custer County, where he has continued to live ever since. Mr. Coffman was converted in 1877and united with The First Baptist Church of Grand Island, locating near Mason City, he was one of the thirteen charter members of this church. He was made a Mason, November 5, 1889 in Mason City Lodge Number 170. He was a faithful member, a regular attendant at all times until his health failed. He was loved and respected by his brethren as an upright man and Mason. He was buried with the Masonic Rites of the Grand Lodge of Nebraska.
He was a great sufferer, being an invalid more or less for fourteen years, but peacefully fell asleep on the morning of January 5, 1910. Besides his bereaved wife and children, he leaves three brothers to mourn his loss; Joseph of Kingsville, Mississippi, D.H. of Hamilton, Illinois and J.N. of Thermopolis, Wyoming.
May the God of all grace and comfort keep the sorrowing widow and children and may they meet again an unbroken family in Heaven where tears and parting scenes are unknown."
