Melissa Kendall was the daughter of Young Ichabod Kendall and Fannie Flavilla Burnham. She was one of a set of twins, her brother being Alonzo Burnham Kendall. Their mother died a few days after their birth. She married Eleazer Sheffield on 18 Oct 1852 in Illinois and had two daughters, Ella Mellissa and Ethel Alamanza both born in Illinois. Nothing is known about what happened to Mr. Sheffield but sometime in the 1850's Melissa's brother was living in California so she joined him in Boonville, Mendocino Co., CA and married J. D. Ball in Soda Spring Rancho, Russian River, Sonoma Co., CA on 1 Jan 1855. They had 8 more children, Julia Flavilla, Mary Paralee, Martha Merinda, Jay Dee, Chardon Scott, Emmett Burnham, Dreme Life and Emily Ermanonda. They were all born in Boonville, Mendocino Co., CA
