Death: Feb. 19, 1925

Elizabeth Crosby was born on December 12, 1851. She was the daughter of Confederate Soldier Adam Joshua Crosby (b. April 28, 1828, South Carolina, d. September 15, 1904, Berlin, Colquitt County, Georgia) and his wife, Lucy Lodge Griffin (b. March 12, 1833, Irwin County, Georgia, d. March 27, 1919, Berlin, Colquitt County, Georgia). Elizabeth Crosby married Harmen Jasper Bulter (b. March 24, 1853 (location unknown), d. February 19, 1925, Berlin, Colquitt County, Georgia). Some of the elder family members believed he was born some place in Northern Florida. Stories stated that he had a falling out with his family and left them never to return again. He would never speak or discuss his family with his wife or children or descendents prior to his death. To Elizabeth Crosby Butler and Harmen Jasper Butler were born 3 daughters: 1) Fannie L. Butler (b. November 04, 1882, Brooks County, Georgia, d. April 04, 1927, Berlin, Colquitt County, Georgia); 2) Jessie Lucy Butler (b. January 25, 1885, Georgia, d. August 10, 1934, Berlin, Colquitt County, Georgia); 3) Lura Elizabeth Butler (b. April 21, 1890, Brooks County, Georgia, d. June 17, 1928, Miami, Dade County, Florida). The Butlers were known to be a very friendly and caring family to the neighbors. Family information stated when food was scarce they would offer children on their way to school grapes from their grape vines and freshly made collard greens. When Elizabeth Crosby Butler died on February 19, 1925, family information stated that the three daughters could not agree on who would receive the family bible. Therefore, the bible was placed in their mother's hands and buried with her. It is believed that the parentage and birth location of Harmen Jasper Butler was in the family bible to be lost forever. Elizabeth Crosby Butler died at her home just around the corner of Wesley Chapel in Berlin, Colquitt County, Georgia. She is buried next to her husband Harmen Jasper Butler in the family plot behind the church.
