Marietta, OK — Graveside memorial services for Ronald Edward Hornbeak, 62, of Ardmore, Okla., formerly of Marietta, Okla., will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 11, 2010, in Prairieview Cemetery, Marietta. Officiating will be Elder Willie McGaskey. Services are under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Marietta.
Ronald, affectionately called Ronnie, was born September 8, 1947, in Marietta, to Christine Jones and Joe Nathan Hornbeak Sr.
He graduated from Marietta High School and attended Langston University. While at Langston he met and married his sweetheart, Renee Works, in 1971 while she was a student at OSU. To this union were born Rynnel (Hornbeak) Guess and Raena Hornbeak.
A 12 year veteran of the military, Ronnie spent time in both the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Navy. He made numerous states his home during this era, including Long Beach, Calif., Norfolk, Va., Corpus Christi, Texas, and Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City, Okla. Ronnie was most proud of being called during the Reagan era to be an Air Traffic Controller.
After a lengthy illness, Ronnie slipped away on June 5, 2010, in Mercy Memorial Health Center, Ardmore.
He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Rynnel Guess and Raena Hornbeak; four grandchildren, Kyla R. Guess, Khalil Guess, Amarri Pettie and Stici Pettie; a friend of 39 years, Renee (Works) Hornbeak; five brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe and Mildred Hornbeak Jr. of Oklahoma City, Steve and Doreen Hornbeak of Virginia Beach, Va., Gilbert Hornbeak, also of Oklahoma City, David Hornbeak of Marietta and Richard Hornbeak of Lawton, Okla.; aunts and uncles, Bettye and Ken Williams of Oklahoma City, Hattie and Jimmie McCarroll of Langston and Hozell Jones of Oklahoma City; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
