Nancy Warnick McGrath, along with her husband, James Alonzo McGrath, and their oldest child, William Lindsay McGrath, traveled by wagon train with other Latter-Day Saints converts from Georgia, Alabama and Arkansas led by Nelson P. Beebee. It arrived near Ramah, New Mexico in the Fall, 1877. Known as the "Arkansas Travelers", they were on their way to the Little Colorado River in Arizona. They were caught in a heavy blizzard while camped there. Smallpox swept through the group. Thirteen died of smallpox and are buried in the Savoia Pioneer Cemetery including Nancy Warnick McGrath and her newborn daughter Mary. They are buried together in the same grave.
