Mary Payne Anderson, 95, a lifelong resident of Virden, N.M., passed away Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011, at the Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center in Safford. She lived with her daughter, Naoma, in Pima for the past five years.
She was born May 21, 1916, in Canutillo, Texas, to Archibald D. Payne and Emma Smith. She married Andrew L. Anderson on Nov. 2, 1935, in Virden. They later solemnized their marriage Nov. 27, 1956, in the Mesa LDS Temple. Andrew passed away in October 1976. Mary served a mission for the LDS Church in 1980 in Wisconsin.
She is survived by her six children, Nelda Potter of Virden, Naoma and Clay Larson of Pima, A.L. and Marilyn Anderson of Duncan, Bob and Patty Anderson of Virden, Ron and Linda Anderson of Gilbert and Pat and Teddy French of Pima; sister, Winifred White of St. David; brothers, Archie and June Payne of Virden and Nevin and Jayne Payne of Mesa; 33 grandchildren; 74 great-grandchildren; and 30 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10, at the Duncan LDS Stake Center. There will be a viewing Friday, Dec. 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Caldwell Funeral Chapel in Safford and Saturday one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be in the Virden Cemetery.
