Signie S. (Mrs. Earl) Callaham, 77, a Bainbridge Island resident since 1936, died Tuesday at Martha and Mary Nursing Home, shere she had resided the past three years.
A homemaker, Mrs. Callaham was a member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist, on Bainbridge, and was elected secretary of the church in the early 1950s. She served in that capacity for more than 19 years.
Mrs. Callaham and her husband, Earl "Squirrel" Callaham -- retired Bainbridge Island fire chief -- celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1979. She was married June 23, 1929, in Olympia, where she worked for a number of years for Pacific Telephone and Telegraph.
Mrs. Callaham was born Sept. 23, 1906, in Shelton, and was raised on Hartstene Island. She graduated from Olympia High School in 1926.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Charles E. Jr. and Richard H., both of Bainbridge Island; four sisters, Esther Goetsch and Helen Simons, both of Hartstene Island, Elna Udell of Arlington and Dorothy Chapman of Shelton; and five grandchildren.
