Jose "Sonny Joe" H. Gurule, age 68, a resident of Belen, passed away on Thursday, March 2.
He was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. Joe was a bricklayer by trade and a certified welder. He loved to go hunting, fishing, camping and he loved big family cookouts. Joe loved helping anyone in need. Joe and his big heart will truly be missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Trancito and Manuelita Gurule; and sisters, Aurelia Espinoza and Mary B. Lopez.
Joe is survived by his devoted and longtime companion of 17 years, Annie Carrillo; son, Matthew B. Gurule; daughters, Barbara Garcia and husband, Alfred, and Lita Mickle and husband, James; brother, Eusebio Gurule and his wife, Gloria; three sisters, Antonia Lopez and husband, Victor, Lugie Gariss and Bennie Miles; 10 loving grandchildren; seven loving great-grandchildren; and Annie Carrillo's sons, Lorenzo and his wife, Barbara, Anthony and Martha, Moises and his wife, Denise, Phillip and his wife, Judith, and Norman and his wife, Heidi.
Services will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church beginning with a viewing on Sunday, March 5, from 3 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. followed by a rosary at 3:30 p.m. A reception will follow at the Valencia County Sheriff's Posse Hall. A final visitation will take place at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church on Monday, March 6, from 8:30 to 9 a.m. with a funeral Mass to be celebrated at 9 a.m. Interment will take place at Abo Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Stephen Carrillo, James Mickle, Alfred Garcia, Matthew R. Gurule, Anthony Carrillo and Norman Carrillo. Honorary pallbearers will be Jacob Castillo, Moises Carrillo, Lorenzo Carrillo, Phillip Carrillo, and Lucas Gurule. Romero Funeral Home, 609 N. Main St., Belen.
