| Birth: | Oct. 5, 1955 | | Death: | Mar. 8, 2008 |  NORMAN Services celebrating the life of Jimmy Dale "Jim" Barnes, 52, will be 10 a.m. Thursday, March 13, 2008, at Bethel Baptist Church, 1717 W. Lindsay, with Pastor James Ehrlich officiating. Interment will be 3 p.m. Thursday, March 13, 2008, in Lone Cedar Cemetery, Mannsville.
Born Oct. 5, 1955, in Madill, to Frank and Ruth Barnes, Jim went to be in the presence of God, surrounded by family at his home, Saturday, March 8, 2008, after a courageous fight with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jackie Barnes.
Jim married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Ann Denise John, on June 15, 1974. Jim had many "loves," but none more important than his family. He was the most loving and dedicated husband, father, granddad, son and brother. Family and friends will greatly miss him, his pleasant disposition, wonderful generosity and loving qualities.
Jim attended Mannsville elementary school and graduated from Dickson High School in 1973. During school, Jim began work in a local supermarket and excelled with his steadfast and determined work ethic. At a young age, he managed supermarkets.
He moved to Norman in 1980 and managed Bestyet Store for Scrivner, Inc., and was promoted to Retail Division Manager. Jim was very proud when he purchased his first supermarket. He owned and operated Jim's IGA SuperThrift in Oklahoma City, Edmond and Guthrie for 15 years.
Eventually he sold the stores, and was currently employed as District Manager for Homeland Stores.
Jim was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing, hunting and OU football. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Guthrie Lion's Club, Norman Masonic Lodge and the Norman Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a cherished daughter, Jamie Allison Barnes, Norman; two beautiful grandchildren, Jacob and Lauren, Norman; sisters, Gerri Gray, Mannsville, and Judy Knox, Ardmore; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Edmond; his sister-in-law, Martha John, Norman; and other family.
