Charlie Garcia, age 70, a resident of Las Quebraditas, (Mora County) N.M., passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 28, 2007, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born and raised at Las Quebraditas, on April 3, 1937, to the late Samuel Garcia and Rupertita DeAragon Garcia.

He was united in marriage at Las Vegas, N.M., on Feb. 18, 1960, to Albinita Vigil.

He retired from the Fort Union National Monument Park after 30 years of service and also worked for the Boeing Airplane Company in Seattle, Wash. He was a seasonal firefighter and a lifetime rancher. He loved hunting, fishing, singing, working on cars and visiting with family.

A lifelong Catholic, he was a member of St. Gertrude's Church in Mora.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Samuel and Rupertita Garcia; granddaughter: Angelica Faith; sisters: Virginia Fernandez; brothers: Samuel Garcia, Manuel Garcia and Eugenio Garcia; infant brother and sister: Ernesto and Rita; father and mother-in-law: Bernabe and Eugenia Vigil and brother-in-law: Bernabe Vigil, Jr.

He is survived by his loving wife: Albinita Garcia of the family home in Las Quebraditas; son: Charles Garcia of Las Quebraditas; daughters: Wanda Valdez and husband Frank of Las Vegas, N.M. and Diane Garcia, Cathy Garcia and special friend, Antonio Lovato, Loretta Garcia and Sandra Romero and husband Manuel all of Las Quebraditas, and Erica Trujillo and husband Joseph of Albuquerque; grandchildren: Daisy, Denise, Krystle, Charles, Felicia, Gabrielle, Jeremy, Joaquin, Jonathan, Ryan, Adryanna, Keith, and soon to be born: baby Trujillo; great-grandchildren: Marcos and Santiago; brothers: Juan Pablo Garcia and wife Adelina of Penasco Blanco, N.M., Juan Modesto Garcia, Jose Orolio Garcia and Teodoro Garcia all of Las Quebraditas; sisters: Mary Roybal and Helen Santos both of Las Vegas, N.M.; brothers-in-law: Filio and Georgina Vigil and Margarito and Louise Vigil all of Las Vegas, N.M.; sisters-in-law: Joann and Willie Martinez of El Carmen, N.M., and Gloria and Carlos Marquez of Albuquerque; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Rosary devotional services were conducted on Sunday at St. Gertrude's Church in Mora. The mass of resurrection was celebrated this morning at St. Gertrude's Church in Mora. Interment followed at the El Carmen Cemetery, with the following serving as casket bearers: Charles Melendez, Jeremy Valerio, Joaquin Valerio, Jonathan Olivas, Anthony Garcia, Ryan Romero and Keith Romero. Serving as honorary bearers were all his remaining grandchildren.
