wife of Benjamin Aged 79y 11m 20d

(birth date calculated from age & date of death)

I am still researching Benjamin Brooks. He was my 5th Great Grandfather. Mary Wood Brooks, who is buried with him in this cemetery, was his second wife. Most of what I currently know about Mary is from a biography about their son John Brooks, which is found in "History of Cameron County Pa." (chapter 14) and which reads, in part:

"The mother of John was a native of Monmouth county, N.J., and of English and Welsh descent. They settled in what is now Gibson township, this county, in 1817, and engaged in clearing and improving a farm, on which his father died in 1839. Benjamin Brooks was twice married; his first wife was Elizabeth Harkins, by whom he had nine children: James, Joseph, William, Benjamin, David, Rebecca, Margaret, Jane and Mary; by his second wife (Mary Wood) he had two children: John and Washington.

Much appreciation is extended to Leanne Keefer Bechdel, for submission and transfer of this memorial, and particularly for the loving care & respect exhibited in the act of locating and improving the burial sites of Benjamin & Mary Brooks in 2006. Per Leanne, "Flag holder still present, cemetery cleared of brush, weed-wacked, bulbs and new flag placed 2006" (by Leanne and her dad).
