Hans was the son of Niels Hansen and Metta Kristen Larson. He was born in Karlebo, Fredricksburg, Denmark. He was married to (1)Metta Kristen Adsersen and (2)Mary Adsersen.
Children with Metta were Hans Hansen, Jr. and Anna.
With Mary Adsersen he had 11 children. They were Niels Samuel, Mary Jane, Andrew V., Marcena, Augustus "Gus", Maria, Ann K., Mary, James, Andrew and ?.
Left Liverpool, England on December 12, 1855 on the ship "Joe Hohn Bodie" and arrived in New York February 15, 1856. Drove an ox team across the plains to Weber, Utah.
Married Metta Kristen Anderson in Mt. Pleasant, Utah. While in Washington, Utah his wife died and he married her youngest sister. Called by Brigham Young to go to Arizona in 1879. While Bishop he rode his little bay mule from town to town, to conferences, to Salt Lake City and back, and even into Old Mexico. Moved to Woodland about 1891.
He and his son Hans did all the stone building in Fort Apache, Arizona and many of the first houses in Whiteriver, Arizona.
