Helen M. Shipshock, 93, of Cameron, Wis., died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003, at Barron Medical Center.
She was born on Dec. 14, 1909, to Mike and Mary (Zborek) Smentek in Weyerhaeuser, Wis., where she was raised and attended school. On Oct. 19, 1931, she married Frank Shipshock in Weyerhaeuser. They farmed in the Weyerhaeuser area until retiring in 1972. They then moved into Cameron where she lived until her death. Helen was an active member of her church and was an inspiration to all who knew her.
She is survived by her son, Pat (Kitty) Shipshock of Cambridge, Minn.; daughters, Rita (Richard) Benik of Bruce, Irene (Bob) Swiersz of Weyerhaeuser and Joyce (Norman) Arndt of Weyerhaeuser; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Sophie Choronozy of Hamtramak, Mich.; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank on Dec. 8, 1988; grandson, Slade Shipshock; brother, Joe Smentek; and sisters, Louise Rybicki and Marie Pappas.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Sunday, Nov. 16, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Cameron. Father Gerard Willger officiated. Interment was at Assumption Catholic Cemetery in the Town of Strickland, Rusk County. [Nov. 19, 2003, Chetek Alert, Chetek, WI.]
