Dorothy Skrupky, 78, of Turtle Lake, died March 9 at Pioneer Nursing Home in Prairie Farm. Funeral services were Tuesday at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Turtle Lake with the Rev. David Lusson officiating. Burial was in Assumption BVM Church Cemetery in Strickland.
Mrs. Skrupky was born March 26, 1927 in Leheigh to Harry and Stella (Dauscher) Ajewski. She attended a one-room schoolhouse in Strickland and high school in Cameron. During WWII, she contributed to the war effort by working at Waldorf Box Co. in the Twin Cities. On Aug. 11, 1945, she married Harry Skrupky in Strickland. They moved to Turtle Lake and opened a gas station and garage, which later became a sports shop specializing in fishing and hunting equipment. They operated the business for 36 years. Mrs. Skrupky served with St. Ann's Altar Society, Turtle Lake School Band Mothers and the PTA. She enjoyed gardening, oil painting, quilting, crocheting and cooking.
She is survived by three sons, Daryl of Viroqua, Jerome of Shakopee, Minn., and David of Turtle Lake; a daughter, Christine Hamel of Bruce; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Skrupky's husband, Harry, died on July 17, 2003.
