Leo "Bunt" Daly 80 of Tolono died at home on Thursday, April 16, 2009, surrounded by his family.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 6 p.m. on Monday, April 20, at St. Thomas Church, Philo. Msgr. James Ramer and Father Joe Dondanville will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. at St. Thomas Church prior to the funeral Mass. Private burial services will be held at Old Bliss Cemetery, Sidney. Freese Funeral Home 202 W. Main, Sidney is assisting with arrangements.
Bunt was born Nov. 2, 1928, in Urbana, a son of Leo and Ellen (Joyce) Daly. He married Joanne Finnegan on May 10, 1952, at St. Thomas Church, Philo. She survives along with their six children, Debbie (Larry) White of Sidney, Tim (Lori Merritt) Daly of Philo, Leo F. "Bowie" (Sue) Daly of Philo, Pat (Julie) Daly of Philo, Hugh (Kelly) Daly of Sidney, and Sean Daly of Philo; a brother, Rev. Father John V. Daly S. J., Korea; 17 grandchildren, Shannon (David) Stinebaugh, Kelly (Annie) White, Joey (Jordan) White, Hannah and Lea Daly, Leo IV, Devin, Janna and Annie Daly, Levi (Christy) Daly, Lindsey (Josh) Kuethe and Katie Daly, Jon, Buddy, and Chloe Daly, Colton and Allyson James; four great-grandchildren, Finnegan and Daleigh Stinebaugh, and Lilly Daly and Megan Daly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two infant brothers and a sister, Doll (Daly) Rubenacker.
He was graduate of St. Thomas Catholic School in Philo and St. Bede's Academy, LaSalle-Peru. He attended University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
Bunt was a Korean War veteran, serving in the Unites States Army.
After serving his country, he farmed in the Philo, Sidney and Tolono area for more than 50 years. He was an avid Unity Rocket sports fan and especially enjoyed Rocket football and wrestling. He will be greatly missed by his family.
