He was the son of the late George Lewis and Miriam Ulmer Argoe, Sr. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina, where he was a Grand Master of the Kappa Sigma fraternity and earned degrees in business and accounting. He then earned a law degree from the USC School of Law. He worked for 16 years in the Attorney General's office, and then served as vice president of Paul Argoe Screens.
Survivors include his son, George Lewis "Buss" Argoe, III, and his wife, Jennifer, of North; a brother, Gene Argoe and his wife, Judy, of North; a nephew, Paul Argoe, Jr., of Swansea; and his best friend, Bucky.
