Edward Everett Adams son of Franklin & Ann Adams, was born May 20, 1857. He graduated from Pike's Seminary in New York and later taught several years in New York, Nebraska and Iowa. He was one of Clay Ridge's oldest settlers, coming in 1880 and took a homestead on the north quarter of what is now the Baumgartner place.
On August 24, 1887, he was united in marriage to Adeline M. Perry. To this union were born nine children. In 1889 they moved to the timber claim which which was his home until his death. Every tree and shrub on the place has been planted and tended by him and his family. He was a great lover of flowers and not only helped many neighbors plant theirs but enjoyed sharing flowers from his large garden which have been beauty spots of the neighborhood until his health failed.
He was baptised in the Congregational faith and was a true and sincere follower of the Lord, a kind and loving husband, father and neighbor. The first religious services of this community was held in the sod school-house where he taught. He was a charter member of the Park Congregational church and very active in the organizing and building of it. He also held many public offices in the community. After a lingering illness enough which he was released from suffering, and went to meet his Savior at 1:30 a.m. Feb. 16, 1935.
He leaves to mourn his passing his beloved wife Adeline M. and five daughters, Edna M. Cheyney of Chambers, Bertha L Wunschel of Wall Lake, Iowa, Ruth E. Wunschel of Early, Iowa; Lillian and Mary M. of Elgin; two sons, Robert H. of Pendleton, Ind,; and Lewis F. of Elgin; ten grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Anna Kinney of Elgin, Mrs. L. D. Stebbins of Whittier, Calif. and Mrs. Edith McKeen of Merced, Calif; and a brother, Robert Adams of Helena, Montana.
