Betty Ashenfelter, age 75, a lifelong resident of the Lake Valley Community, passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2008 in Weatherford, Oklahoma.
Betty was born in Oakdale Township, OK on December 21, 1932 to Joel Orin and Edith Elvira (Mandrell) East. Betty grew up on the family
farm north of Mountain View and graduated from Mountain View High School in 1950. While in high school, she was active in Rainbow Girls, rising to a leadership position in the local chapter.
On September 18, 1950 she married Dale Wayne Ashenfelter. After a brief time in California, they made their home on Dale's family farm near
Lake Valley, where they raised hogs, cattle, wheat, cotton and milo. They were honored with an award of Farm Family of the Year by the Farm Bureau. During this time, Betty also worked for a short time for Robertson's Factory in Cordell, followed by 24 years in several positions for the Mountain View/Gotebo school system, retiring in 1997. Betty and Dale enjoyed 45 years of marriage before Dale passed away in 1995. Betty continued to enjoy many activities, including her avid interest in Big 12 basketball and in reading mystery novels. Betty loved her family, and she will be missed very much.
Preceding Betty in death was her husband Dale Wayne; her parents, Joel Orin and Edith Elvira East; one infant daughter; one grandchild, Colin Treadaway; one sister-in-law, Vivian Ashenfelter.
Betty is survived by her three daughters, Melody Ashenfelter of Weatherford, Oklahoma; Debra Treadaway and her husband James of Woodward, Oklahoma; Sharla Armstrong and her husband Bill of Oklahoma City; one brother, Jerry East and his wife Wanda of Tulsa; one brother-in-law, Loyd Ashenfelter of Lawton; two grandchildren,
Erin Ford and her husband Stacy of Oklahoma City; Nathan Treadaway of Weatherford; three aunts, Hazel Pritchard of Mountain View; Marie
Riley of Mountain View; Ruth Baker of California; and numerous other relatives and many friends.
Services for Betty Ashenfelter will be on Saturday, February 16, 2008 at 2 pm at the Sharon Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor
Denver McGuire officiating and interment will follow at the Sharon Cemetery under the direction of McClure Funeral Home of Cordell.
