PAWHUSKA -- Fred A. Drummond, a Pawhuska rancher and cattleman, died Friday. He was 84. Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church of Pawhuska under the direction of Johnson's Funeral Home. Widely known throughout the ranching community, Drummond came from a large pioneer family of cattlemen. The Drummond family has played a major role in the history of Osage County since 1886. As a pioneer, Drummond's grandfather settled in Pawhuska, where he traded with the Osage Indians and later started a mercantile company in Hominy. The Drummond family home in Hominy was donated to the Oklahoma Historical Society in 1980. He graduated from Oklahoma State University and was a member of Beta Theta Pi. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, receiving a 50-year Masonic Service recognition in 1992. Drummond was a past president of the Osage County Cattleman's Association, a charter member of the Oklahoma Cattleman's Association and a founder of the Osage County Soil Conservation District. He received the Silver Beaver award in 1965 from the Boy Scouts of America, the Animal Husbandry Award in 1960 from OSU for outstanding work, and received an outstanding
service award from the Osage County Soil Conservation District in 1975. Drummond was a 50-year Rotarian and a past club president. He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Pawhuska and served as a church elder many times. He also was vice-president and co-owner of The Cleveland Bank and served for many years on the Board of Directors of The National Bank of Commerce in Pawhuska. In 1996, he received the Frank Phillips Heartland Award in recognition of his personal character, public involvement and community achievement. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ruth Drummond; his sons, Tom and Chuck; and his grandchildren, Tim Drummond, Ladd Drummond, Thatcher Drummond, Holly Drummond, Katie Courleycq, Deborah Fehrcq and Kim Thomas; and three great-grandchildren.
