Mary Gallanar's family is listed on the 1880 census for township #4. Her husband was Nicholas Gallanar from Ohio. He received land from the BLM in 1879 in Alpine County. He is listed as a widower farmer from Ohio. Their two children are Grace, age 5, and Frank, age 3. Both children were born in California and their mother is listed as having been born in California also.
In 1903 Frank was old enough to get land from the BLM too. In WWI he registered for the draft in Douglas County, Nevada, saying he lived with a relative in Carson City. He died in El Dorado County, California, in 1951 and his mother's maiden name was listed as Williams.
The Woodfords Cemetery where Mary is buried is not the newer one. It is on what is the town square and has been paved over except for the remaining grave markers.
This area of Alpine County is cut off by the Sierra Nevada Mountains with high snow drifts in the winter so that people here get their news, food, etc from Douglas County, Nevada. Sonora Pass is some 8,900 feet high.
