Ivy Brandt
1919 2003

Funeral services for Mrs. Val (Ivy) Brandt, 83, of Marion, formerly of Garnavillo, were conducted by Mr. Robert Orr at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 3, at the Gospel Hall in Garnavillo.

Interment was in Garnavillo Community Cemetery with the following casket bearers: Gary Dempster, Leslie Palmer, Larry Gull, Gene Patrick, John Kregel, and Ron Wahls.

Visitation was at the Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Garnavillo, on Sunday.

Ivy Arlene Cocking was born Aug. 24, 1919 to Roy and Agnes Cocking of rural Earlville. She was raised on the family farm and received her education in Oneida. She also attended Iowa State University in Ames for a year.

On Jan. 17, 1938 Ivy was united in marriage to Valmah Brandt of Garnavillo at a small family wedding in her parents' home. To this union were born four children: Ruth, Larry, Lois, and Dale.

On Dec. 1, 1942 Ivy accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her own personal Savior though the truth of Isaiah 53:5 "But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed." Ivy and Val were faithful to the assembly that meets in Garnavillo Gospel Hall for many years and often visited other surrounding assemblies.

On April 8, 2000, Ivy suffered a massive stroke while attending a Bible conference in Stout. Since that time she has resided at Linn Manor Care Center in Marion, and when able attended the assembly meetings in the Gospel Hall in Marion.

Ivy loved, enjoyed, and appreciated her family. She and Val held many large gatherings in their home and showed hospitality to many of the Lord's servants and other Christians from near and far. She did beautiful handwork and also enjoyed gardening, canning, baking and more. Much of this was a true labor of love that she shared with others.

Ivy suffered another stroke on Feb. 17, 2003 and passed into the presence of the Lord on Feb. 28, 2003.

Surviving are her husband Val, of Marion; four children and their spouses, Ruth and Bill Cairns of Cleveland, Ohio, Larry and Diana Brandt and Lois and Larry Asche of Parkersburg, and Dale and Myriam Brandt of Garnavillo; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Beth and Mark Fitch, Sara and Cary DeMoss, Alex and Karen Brandt, Dora and Steve Haag, Roy and Bridgit Brandt, Esther and Craig Sabin, and Susan Cairns; seven great-grandchildren, Amanda, Maria, and Alyssa Fitch, Aaron and Lillian Brandt, and Mitchell and Laurelle Brandt.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Vera, Betty, and Eva Cocking; and a brother, James Cocking.
