Martin Van Buren Atwood was born Stowe, Lamoille County, Vermont 10 Sep 1841. Died 14 Dec 1908 at the Soldier's Home in Danville, Vermilion County, Illinois. He served in the Civil War, Company D., Illinois 108th Infantry Regiment, from 28 August 1862 - 5 August 1865. Brother of Mrs. Julius Cranston of Gibson City. Before coming to Illinois & entering the Soldier's Home, he was engaged in business for several years at Hutchison, Kansas. He was unmarried.
