Delbert passed away on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at his home in Orland, surrounded by his family. He was born to Joe and Hazel Baugher on April 20, 1918 at the Baugher family ranch west of Orland.

A native of Orland, Delbert attended Citrona Park Grammar School west of Orland; he graduated from Orland High School with the class of 1936. After graduation, Delbert attended Long Beach Junior College for two years, returning home in 1938. With help from his father Joe, Delbert and his partner, Paul Blacet re-opened Orland Hardware and Implement Company, formerly operated by George Wright. The original store occupied the northeast corner of 5th and Mill Streets; Baugher and Blacet rented the building from Wright; after purchasing that location, they built a new store across the street on the west side of 5th Street at its current location.

On July 6, 1941 Delbert married his beloved wife, Ruby in Willows. In 1943 he was drafted into the United States Air Force, serving in southern England until 1946, when he returned to his family and business in Orland.

Delbert is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ruby; son, Geoffrey; grandson, Rob, and his brother, Keith Baugher; and sister-in-law, Carol of Orland. Delbert also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his son, Bruce.

He was instrumental in founding the Westside Ambulance Association, serving for many years as the treasurer, working with the original dispatcher, Wanda Pratt. Delbert was a charter member of Orland Rotary. When Blacet retired from the hardware business due to ill health, Delbert continued to operate the business until he retired in 1984 after selling the hardware business to Jerry Jackson. He enjoyed fishing and snowmobiling with family and friends for many years. His passion was working in his garden, tending vegetables and citrus trees, each harvest preparing olives and making pickles until a few months before his passing.
