|Death: ||Jun. 9, 2013|
Ernie R. Armstrong, 79, passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2013 in Oviedo, Fla., when he lost his long and valiant fight against lung cancer.
He was born in 1934 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Ernie moved to Northern California in 1961, when he met and married the love of his life, Donna. He joined PG&E in 1963 and subsequently the family moved several times before settling down in San Luis Obispo in 1975. Ernie retired as a General Foreman from PG&E, where he won "the largest individual award ever made by the PG&E Suggestion Plan or by any utility for an employee suggestion in the history of the industry." This changed forever the method used in footing construction for line towers. Ernie had a lifelong love of stock and sprint car racing and in fact, raced competitively himself in Colorado Springs. After he retired from PG&E, he served on a local pit crew so he could remain active in the sport he so loved.
Mr. Armstrong is survived by his daughter, Shannon Armstrong, sister, Vera Rawlins, of Fairbanks, Alaska.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Armstrong in 2000 due to a tragic car accident.
