West Branch - Chester Worden, 80, Turin Road, a former postmaster and World War I veteran, died Thursday in Rose Hospital after a brief illness.

Mr. Worden was born Sept. 5, 1893, in Rome, son of Smith and Mathilda Newman Worden. He married Doris Houser on Aug. 29, 1926, in Newark,

He served with the 303rd Combat Engineers in the American Expeditionary Force in France for 18 months and saw action there.

He operated an auto garage in Rome for six years and opened another garage in West Branch in 1928. he was appointed postmaster for West Branch in 1925, retiring in 1944. He was later employed at Rome Cable, and General Cable, retiring in 1946.

He was a charter member of the "40 et 8" and the American Legion, ROme. He was also a volunteer fireman in Rome.
Besides his wife, he leaves four sons, Charles E., Lee Center, Chester Jr., West Branch, Ronald William, Lee, and Donald Worden. Clark Mills, a sister, Mrs. Anne Warner, ROme and eight grandchildren and seven step-grandchildren.

Services will be Sunday at the Trainor Funeral Home, Boonville. Burial will be in West Branch Friends Cemetery.
