Stephen Washington Bond was the son of Joel Bond and Jane Hinds. He was born about 1812 in Kentucky. He married Nancy Berry Cunningham Ross, the daughter of James and Margaret (?) Bond, who were born in England. Stephen and Nancy were married February 28, 1841 in Wayne County, Kentucky. They were the parents of the following 10 children: John Ross, Thomas McCreary, Anna M., James Ross, William C., Margaret Malissa, Lewis Joel, George C., Ulysses Grant and Mahala Jane Bond.

Stephen Washington Bond died on December 20, 1896 and was buried in the Caneyville Cemetery in Caneyville, Grayson County, Kentucky. Nancy Berry Cunningham Ross Bomd joined him there after her death on June 23, 1903 at the age of 82 years, 10 months and 15 days. Also buried in the Caneyville Cemetery are their sons: John Ross, Thomas McCreary, James Ross, George C. and Ulysses Grant Bond.
