Joseph Cassaretto Groveland - Joseph Cassaretto, 81, of Groveland descendant of a pioneer Tuolumne and Mariposa Counties family, died last night in a local hospital after a long illness.
He was a rancher for many years in the Groveland area. His father Louis, who arrived in Groveland in about 1851 operated the Cassaretto grocery store. He also ran a freight line with a team of eight horses in the mines near Chinese Camp.
His mother, Lena, was a descendant of the Bruschi family, early day settlers in the Coulterville area.
He leaves his widow Lena of Groveland; a son of Groveland; a daughter of Day City; two brothers, Harry of Oakland and Fred Cassaretto of Stockton, and a sister Lavina Stanley of Oakland.
Services are pending in the Terzich & Wilson Funeral Home in Sonora.
