Raymond John Jeff, 70 was born on February 2, 1943 in Hanford, CA to Mike Jeff and Ramona Elizabeth Whiteside Jeff. Raymond passed away at his home on Wednesday morning, November 27, 2013 after a lengthy battle with cancer. He went to Lemoore High School and then off to the Navy. 40 years ago Raymond Jeff became a Yokut Nation Native Historian of California.
His hobbies were deep sea fishing with his Tachi Elders, and going hunting and, of course, traveling with his Tachi Elders to Las Vegas, NV. But his favorite hobby was playing at The Palace Indian Gaming Hotel and Casino in the bingo hall. He called that his work, and made a lot of friends there. Raymond Jeff will be deeply missed by families and friends.
He is survived by 1 daughter: Juanita Clementine Jeff, 1 brother: Jerry Jeff, 1 sister: Caroline Martinez, his grandchildren: Gloria Jarawilla, Robert Contreras, Jr. Raymond Martinez and Jose Jarawilla his step-grandchildren: Isabel Magnia, Lorna Martinez, Lisa Barrera, Anna Rodriguez, Anthony Angel, Bill Rodriguez and Frances Davis, his ex-wife Joann Davis and all of her children. He was preceded in death by his daughter Paula Jeff in 2004.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday December 3, 2013 from 5 - 6 p.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Lemoore, A Vigil Rosary Service will be at 6:00 p.m. at St. Peter's. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter's with burial to follow at the Tachi Indian Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Phipps-Dale Funeral Chapel in Lemoore.
