Hilda Braaten was the daughter of Kittel Braaten and Gunhild Ogdahl.
Hilda married Martin J Barsness.
The Obit was found in the Starbuck Times, Starbuck, Minnesota on Thursday, May 23, 1963, p.2.
"Mrs. M. J. Barsness buried on May 11. Funeral services for Mrs. Martin J Barsness, 70, were held at Barsness Lutheran church, rural Glenwood, on Saturday, May 11, 1963, at 2:00 p.m., with the Rev. Ronald C. Golberg officiating. Chester Barsness was the soloist and sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Sweet Hour of Prayer."
Active pallbearers were Stanley Braaten, Norman Flow, Donald Hanson, Harlan Hanson, Ernest Nitardy and Glen Paulson. Honorary pallbearers were Omer Barsness, Clarence Barsness, Forrest Berg, Melvin Hagen, Carl Harvig, Ingolf Jennum, Clarence Pladson and Roy Moe. Interment was in the Barsness Lutheran cemetery.
Mrs. Barsness died at the Glenwood Community hospital Tuesday, May 7, after an illness of six weeks.
Hilda Braaten was born in Kandiyohi county on March 29, 1893, of the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kittel Braaten. She lived her youth in Kandiyohi county and Barsness township, Pope county, where she received her schooling in District No. 96.
On June 21, 1916, she was married to Martin J. Barsness at the Chippewa Falls Lutheran church. Following their marriage they farmed near Maple Creek, Sask. In 1919 they moved back to Barsness township, and have since lived in the Glenwood community.
She was a faithful member of the Barsness church, and took an active part in the ALCW and church circles.
She is survived by her husband; two sons, Norris and Raymond, of Glenwood; three daughters, Mrs. R. V. (Grace) Gandrud, Albert Lea; Mrs. William (Nellie Jane) Masica and Marvel Barsness of Minneapolis; two sisters, Mrs. Geida Paulson of St. Paul and Mrs. Hazel Hanson of Sedan, and two brothers, Gilman Braaten, Terrace, and Theodore Braaten, Sedan.
Also surviving are 10 grandchildren: Bruce and Cynthia Gandrud, Dale and Dyann Barsness, Beverly, Vicky and Michael Masica, and Gegory, Gail and Grant Barsness.
Preeceding her in death were her parents, an infant daughter, Mavis, and one sister, Augusta Hanson.
Relatives and friends were in attendance from Minneapolis, St. Paul, Duluth, Benson, Sunburg and Brooten.
