Paul Bowles, 97 years old, the last surviving Federal Soldier in Taylor County, died at his late residence on the Spurlington Road Sunday morning following an illness of several weeks. Mr. Bowles was a member of Company E, 27th. Kentucky Volunteer Infantry and served from 1861 to 1865.
The deceased was a member of Palestine Baptist Church, with which he became affiliated with early in life. He was united in marriage to Miss Eliza Roots in 1869, who preceded him to the grave seven years ago. To this union seven children where born, the four surviving are: Mrs. R.H. Farris, Mrs. Alex Swafford, John and George Bowles all of Taylor County.
Funeral services where held at the Palestine Church Monday at 2:00 o'clock conducted by the pastor, Rev. L. E. Whitlow, followed by internment in the church cemetery.
