Katie E. Albrecht, 89, of Pigeon, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000, at the Scheurer Hospital Long Term Care Unit following a long illness.
She was born in Wellman, Iowa, on Nov. 24, 1910, daughter of the late George and Naomi Swartzendruber and stepdaughter of the late Lena (Kelm) Swartzendruber. On Nov. 28, 1929, she was united in marriage to Herbert Albrecht in Pigeon. He preceded her in death on May 6, 1975.
Mrs. Albrecht was a member of Pigeon River Mennonite Church, where she was active with the Sewing Circle. She enjoyed quilting, gardening and growing flowers, especially roses. She loved nurturing her family and often babysat for her grandchildren and great-
She was survived by her children, Virgil Albrecht and his wife, Martha, of Vassar, Carol Miller and her husband, Arnold, of Farmington, N.M., and Herbert Albrecht and his wife, Dorothy, of Vassar; a son-in-law, Clayton Maust and his wife, Thelma, of Harrisonburg, Va.; a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Albrecht of Lancaster, Pa.; 17 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Velma Esch and her husband, Ira, of Fairview and Edna Gascho of Pigeon; a brother, Glen Swartzendruber and his wife, Irma, of Pigeon; sisters-in-law, Iva Swartzendruber and Erma Swartzendruber, both of Bay Port; and several nieces and nephews.
