Albert “Sam” Albertson was born on February 24, 1934, in Winona, Minn., and died of leukemia on May 23, 2004, at the VA Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. He was a veteran of Korea and two tours in Vietnam.

He was a former resident of Bennett Valley and Eleva, Wis., several Air Force bases in the States and abroad, and most recently of Colfax, Wis., and Naylor, Mo.

He is survived by long-time companion, Marlys Canfield, of Naylor, Mo.; son, Jeffrey (Joann) Albertson of Miami, Fla.; two grandchildren, Jeremy and Christina, of Trenton, Fla.; sister, Ardelle (John) Williamson of Trempealeau, Wis.; brother, Roger (Joan) Albertson of Mathis, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Orvin and Arleen Albertson; grandparents, Albert and Anna Albertson and Samuel and Thea Stevens.

A memorial service will be held this week in Poplar Bluff, Mo., for family and friends.

On Friday, June 18, at 11 a.m., family and friends will gather at the Sampson Funeral Home, 1017 Railroad Ave., in Colfax, Wis., for a memorial service with Rev. Thomas Boyer officiating. A graveside service with full military honors will be held that afternoon at 3 p.m., at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, Wis.
