Edward "Big Ed" Anderson, 79, of Spooner passed away on Monday, Feb. 17, 2015, at Lakeview Medical Center in Rice Lake.

Edward was born on May 16, 1935, in Kickapoo to Ole and Emma Anderson. Edward attended and graduated from the Kickapoo school district. After graduating he enlisted with the U.S. Navy on March 8, 1954, as an electrician on the U.S.S. Albany. He served four active years and was honorably discharged as a reservist on March 7, 1958. Edward served as a reservist at the Commandant Ninth Naval District until March 7, 1962. After separation he worked as a crane operator for the High Line out of the union office. He was also a Streseau Lab machinest for 10 years. Ed retired from T & T Tool as a machinist.

He wed Evelda "Val" Slayton-Heller on June 28, 1980, in Spooner.

Edward enjoyed tinkering and making things, gardening, participating in and being a member of the American Legion, and visiting with relatives.

Edward is survived by his loving wife, Evelda; children, Toni Putman (Lee) of Delavan, Susan Cords (James) of Walworth, Cindy Smith (Robert) of Spooner, Gloria (Scott) Butterfield of Shell Lake, and Nancy (Paul) Busby of Rogers, Minnesota; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; many other relatives; and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Kenneth, Carl, Melvin, Paul, Orvin, David, and an infant brother; and sisters Edna Lieurance, Myrtle Dahlberg, Bernice Green, Olivia Lieurance, and Mary Crow.

A graveside service with Military Honors will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 22, at Spooner State Veteran’s Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will follow at Tony’s Riverside, Spooner. Honorary bearers are Jerry Kubista, Buck Washkuhn, Joel Boyle, Gary Waite, David Freeman, and Tony Baier.
