He was born June 2, 1918 in Dallas, WI to Ole and Amy (Moness) Amundson. On November 15, 1940 in Barronett, WI he was married to Rose Nelson. Walter served in the United States Army during World War II and was medically discharged from the service. He worked for Automotive Rebuilders for 40 years until his retirement. Walter was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and was also their Secretary; he was a member of the Kiwanis Club and helped beautify the streets with annual petunia planting; and served as an elder for over 60 years at the New Life Christian Center in Rice Lake. Walter was a devoted Christian with a deep Love for the Lord. Walter also loved hunting, fishing and was an avid Green Bay Packer "Backer".
Walter Amundson is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Rose Amundson of Rice Lake, WI; 4 sons, Virgil (Linda) Amundson of Shell Lake, WI, Don (Jeannette) Amundson of Stanley, WI, David (Barbara) Amundson of Sacramento, CA and Jim Amundson of Birchwood, WI; 3 daughters, Carolyn (David) Olson of Richfield, MN, Sharon (Louie) Foss of Rice Lake, WI and Lisa (Tom) Smith of Chanhassen, MN; 21 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 6 great great-grandchildren; a brother, Melvin (Esther) of Minneapolis, MN; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ole and Amy Amundson; a brother, Elmer Amundson; and a sister, Florence Warner.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, March 17, 2014 at the New Life Christian Center in Rice Lake, WI. Visitation will be held from 9:30 - 11 AM Monday at the Church. Burial will take place at 2:00 PM March 17, 2014 at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Spooner, WI where full Military Rites will be accorded by the Rice Lake Veterans Center Honor Guard.
